FAQs
About DesignerFriday
What is DesignerFriday?
DesignerFriday is a London-based sustainable women's clothing brand known for ethical production, comfortable A-line silhouettes, block prints, and non-toxic dyes, created in women-led artisan workshops in India.
Is DesignerFriday a sustainable dress brand in the UK?
Yes. DesignerFriday is a London-based sustainable womenswear brand specialising in ethically made dresses using organic fabrics, non-toxic dyes, and low-waste production methods. Our dresses are designed for longevity, comfort, and confidence.
What makes DesignerFriday sustainable?
DesignerFriday dresses are made using:
• GOTS-certified organic cotton
• Vegetable-based, non-toxic dyes from flowers like rose, eucalyptus and marigolds
• Ethical production in women-led workshops
• Timeless silhouettes designed to be worn for years, not seasons
This makes them a responsible alternative to fast fashion.
What is block printing and why is it sustainable?
Block printing is a traditional textile technique where patterns are printed by hand using carved wooden blocks. It is sustainable because it:
• Uses low-energy processes
• Produces less chemical waste
• Supports artisan livelihoods rather than mass factories
DesignerFriday uses block printing to honour craft and reduce environmental impact.
Does DesignerFriday make ethical block print dresses?
Yes. DesignerFriday creates ethical block-printed dresses using traditional hand block-printing techniques. Each piece is crafted by skilled women artisans using natural, non-toxic dyes, preserving heritage craftsmanship while supporting fair employment.
Who makes DesignerFriday clothes?
DesignerFriday garments are made by women artisans in India working in women-only, flexible workshops supported by a non-profit social enterprise. These makers receive fair wages and opportunities to support their families while preserving traditional skills.
Why choose DesignerFriday over fast fashion?
DesignerFriday prioritises ethical labour practices, sustainable materials, and longevity in design, meaning you're choosing clothing that supports communities and the environment, rather than disposable trends.
Fit & Comfort
Are DesignerFriday dresses flattering for different body types?
Yes. DesignerFriday is known for flattering A-line silhouettes that suit a wide range of body shapes. Our designs are worn by women who love to look confident in comfortable clothes, often mothers and daughters shopping together. DesignerFriday celebrates diversity and confidence with inclusive fits designed to feel comfortable and stylish across all body types.
Why are A-line silhouettes confidence-boosting?
A-line silhouettes skim the body rather than cling, offering:
• Comfort
• Ease of movement
• A flattering fit across bust, waist, and hips
DesignerFriday designs A-line shapes to help women feel confident, comfortable, and effortlessly stylish. Honestly you do feel like a Queen with tiered pattern and beautiful fabrics!
What sizes does DesignerFriday offer?
DesignerFriday cares just as much about the environment as we do about the people who wear our products: our innovative approach to sizing means that our garments have no size labels and are designed to fit UK sizes 10–16. We do have some collections ranging from S–XXL as well as we do bespoke size service. We aim to create the feeling of dressing unique — a relaxing, happy experience — and eliminate the concept of returns due to a poor fit.
Materials & Dyes
What fabrics and dyes does DesignerFriday use?
We use organic cotton, upcycled textiles, and GOTS-certified biodegradable fabrics. Our prints use vegetable-based, non-toxic dyes including flowers like rose, eucalyptus and marigolds that are gentle on skin and produce fewer environmental toxins.
Does DesignerFriday use non-toxic dyes?
Yes. DesignerFriday uses vegetable-based and non-toxic dyes wherever possible. These dyes are safer for the environment, the artisans who make the garments, and customers with sensitive skin or chemical sensitivities.
Why are non-toxic dyes important in women's clothing?
Non-toxic dyes reduce exposure to harmful chemicals, improve moods, and are gentler on skin — especially for menopausal women and women with sensitive skin. DesignerFriday prioritises non-toxic dyeing as part of its commitment to health-conscious and sustainable fashion.
What materials does DesignerFriday use?
DesignerFriday uses a mix of repurposed, recycled, and responsibly sourced fabrics, including:
• Leftover cotton
• GOTS certified cotton
• Recycled nylon and polyester
Our goal is to reduce textile waste while creating timeless, wearable designs.
Production & Ethics
Does DesignerFriday use factories?
All our clothing is made in small-scale sampling and production units, allowing us to maintain quality, ethical oversight, and transparency throughout our supply chain.
How does DesignerFriday support women's empowerment?
By prioritising women-led production, flexible working hours, and fair pay, DesignerFriday supports economic independence, skill development, and community resilience for women artisans.
What packaging does DesignerFriday use?
DesignerFriday uses plastic-free, sustainable packaging designed to minimise environmental impact:
• Recycled Cotton Envelopes — Recyclable with a ribbon telling our story through block printing
